Diablo 4 story specifics and its release date are the things that fans are likely looking forward to the most. Some details have been revealed via the handful of class trailers, and what had been a quarterly update about Diablo 4 straight from Blizzard’s official site. Even at its BlizzConline event a little over five months ago, not much else was released about the highly anticipated title. Fans had begun to point their hopes towards E3 2021 before Blizzard announced their planned absence. And now that an in-person BlizzCon 2021 has also been cancelled, fans are curious about if they’ll receive an update soon.

Fans Should Keep Expectations in Check For Diablo 4 Updates
Diablo fans have been one of the most patient fanbases, albeit not entirely by choice. The last reveal was the Rogue class back at February’s BlizzConline. This was an exciting development, many longtime fans were excited to see the return of a classic character archetype to Diablo 4. Other than that, a roughly thirty-minute presentation dove more into broad aspects about the game, like its return to a tone more similar to Diablo 2. While it was heartening to see the new class, and new gameplay with it, the focus of the Diablo content during the event was focused around the upcoming Diablo Immortal mobile game.
This focus on the mobile game left some fans feeling spurned, although its worth noting that early impressions of Diablo Immortal have been positive. The short Diablo 4 presentation did dive further into elements like the game’s PvP, new character customization, and breaking down the Rogue’s gameplay, but fans were left to look beyond BlizzConline for more updates. Concerning the aforementioned quarterly updates, Blizzard has yet to release another one since December. The next quarterly update should have occurred in March or April, but likely was skipped due to the information announced during BlizzConline.
That being said the most likely time to expect an update about Diablo 4 could be as early as next month, in the form of another quarterly update. Continuing that schedule, if that’s what Blizzard does, could mean an update either next month, or in August. It’s worth mentioning just how much Diablo content is already on its way with Diablo Immortal and Diablo 2: Resurrected both on the horizon. Diablo Immortal is slated for this year and Diablo 2: Resurrected is scheduled to release on September 23 on PC. With so much other content coming to Diablo it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see Blizzard skip another quarterly update to focus on the other games.
Fans of Diablo have been incredibly patient thus far in waiting for the fourth installment, but hopefully that patience will be rewarded soon. A renewal of the quarterly updates next month could be just what ravenous fans need most from Diablo 4.
Diablo 4 is in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One as confirmed platforms.
