Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 2 kicked off in February, and brought with it the fan favorite MW2 map Rust, brand new game modes, and the debut of the mega popular Warzone battle royale. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 3 has a lot to live up to, but to date, Activision has kept tight-lipped about what fans can expect from the game’s next season. Official details have yet to be announced, but we do know when Modern Warfare Season 3 is expected to start, and a couple of maps that it may be bringing to the table.
The Modern Warfare Season 2 end date is Tuesday, April 7, which is also expected to be the Modern Warfare Season 3 start date. If past seasons are anything to go by, Modern Warfare Season 3 will launch at some point in the morning on April 7, and it will coincide with a large update. The update will provide the usual bug fixes and the like, but it will also add substantial content to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

As for what that content will be, that remains to be seen. Presumably, fans will have new weapons, playlists, and game modes to look forward to, but all of that remains a mystery at this time. However, it should be noted that two potential new maps for Modern Warfare Season 3 have already leaked thanks to dataminers and a glitch within the game itself that showed the new maps to players while they were matchmaking.
If the leaks are accurate, then Modern Warfare Season 3 will kick off with two remade maps from past Call of Duty games. Apparently, Modern Warfare 3’s Village and Call of Duty 4’s Backlot are coming to the game with Season 3, though it’s possible that Infinity Ward will release them on different days instead. It’s also possible that Infinity Ward has completely different maps planned for Modern Warfare Season 3, but that seems unlikely at this point.
As for when fans will learn more about Modern Warfare Season 3, that’s hard to say. It’s possible that more information will come this Friday, but Activision and Infinity Ward have shown a tendency to make last-minute announcements when it comes to new Modern Warfare content. That’s what it did for the Warzone battle royale announcement, and it’s also what it did with the reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, so fans will just have to wait and see at this point.
If the Modern Warfare Season 3 release date is indeed April 7 as anticipated, though, more information from Infinity Ward should be available within the next week.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
